Conn. Federal Judge Takes Parties’ Motions Under Advisement in Reinsurance Commutation Dispute

HARTFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut federal judge has taken under advisement Trenwick America Reinsurance Corp.’s motion to enjoin CX Reinsurance Company Ltd. from proceeding with reinsurance arbitration.

In a one-page order issued April 28, Judge Janet Bond Arterton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut also took under advisement CX Re’s motion to compel Trenwick to arbitrate the dispute.

Trenwick’s predecessor, Chartwell Insurance Co., entered into two casualty excess of loss reinsurance agreements with Commercial Casualty Insurance Company of Georgia, effective April 1, 1993, and April 1, 1997. Under both agreements, Chartwell reinsured a portion of CCIC’s …
