Stonebridge Seeks $813,266 in Prejudgment Interest in Wake Of $5.8 Million Verdict Against Brokers

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — In the wake of a $5.8 million reinsurance verdict rendered in its favor against broker Nation Motor Club, Stonebridge Casualty Insurance Co. has asked a Florida federal judge to amend the final judgment to include $813,226.50 in prejudgment interest.
In its April 11 motion filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Stonebridge argued that under Florida law, “when a verdict liquidates damages on a plaintiff’s out-of-pocket, pecuniary losses, plaintiff is entitled, as a matter of law, to prejudgment interest at the statutory rate from the date of that loss.”
