Employers Insurance Says ACE Improperly Appointed its Party Arbitrator in Reinsurance Dispute

MADISON, Wis. — Employers Insurance Company of Wausau has asked a Wisconsin federal court for a ruling that it properly appointed a party arbitrator in its reinsurance dispute with ACE Property and Casualty Co.
In an April 16 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, Wausau asserts that ACE improperly appointed John Dore as Wausau’s arbitrator because Wausau had already appointed Spiro K. Bantis as its arbitrator.
According to the complaint, Wausau reinsured ACE’s predecessors under a reinsurance treaty effective Jan. 1, 1978, to Dec. 31, 1981 (“Treaty 1”).
