MIAMI — Costa Rican insurer Instituto Nacional De Seguros (INS) is seeking a new trial in the wake of an adverse $771,855 verdict issued in favor of two reinsurance brokers, arguing that the jury ignored substantial evidence that the brokers intentionally overcharged the insurer reinsurance commissions.
In its March 19 motion filed in the Miami-Dade County Circuit Court, INS further argued that the jury was improperly influenced by matters outside the record and by false statements made by the brokers’ counsel that INS concealed evidence.
