Conn. Judge Sends Reinsurance Dispute Between Trenwick, Unionamerica, to Arbitration

HARTFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut federal judge has sent to arbitration a reinsurance dispute between Unionamerica Insurance Company Ltd. and Trenwick America Reinsurance Corp., finding a valid and enforceable arbitration agreement exists between the parties.

On July 12, Judge Janet Bond Arterton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut also found the court, rather than the arbitration panel, has jurisdiction over the question of arbitrability because the issue does not fall within the arbitration clause.
