SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A Puerto Rico federal judge has refused to vacate or modify an arbitration award that requires an insurer to pay its broker $14,277, ruling that the award is sound under federal and state arbitration law. Universal Insurance Co. v. Warrantech Consumer Product Services Inc., et al., No. 11-1613 (D. Puerto Rico).

On March 28, Senior District Judge Salvador E. Casellas of the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico ruled that the court is not authorized to delve into the arbitration panel's "sound" and thorough reasoning.
