CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Arrowood Indemnity Co. has asked a North Carolina federal judge to appoint an umpire to oversee an arbitration with Harper Insurance Co. involving reinsurance coverage for underlying asbestos claims. Arrowood Indemnity Co. v. Harper Insurance Co., No. 3:12-2 (W.D. N.C.)
In a Jan. 4 petition, Arrowood argues that the court is authorized to appoint an umpire under the Federal Arbitration Act and the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards because Harper's refusal to select an umpire has caused a lapse or deadlock.
