NEW YORK - An insurer has sued Michigan Mutual Insurance Co. in New York federal court, seeking nearly $600,000 in reinsurance proceeds for the settlement of underlying asbestos injury claims brought against General Refractories Co. American Empire Surplus Lines Insurance Co. v. Michigan Mutual Insurance Co., No. 11-4101 (S.D. N.Y.).

American Empire Surplus Lines Insurance Co. filed the June 16 complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

According to the suit, American Empire issued an excess blanket catastrophe liability policy to General Refractories, effective Aug. 1, 1986, to Aug. 1, 1987, with a $1 …
