Allianz Seeks Sanctions Against Wausau in Disqualification Action

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Allianz Underwriters Insurance Co. has asked a federal judge to sanction Employers Insurance Company of Wausau for attempting to disqualify the firm of McDermott Will & Emery from representing Allianz in a pending reinsurance arbitration. Employers Insurance Company of Wausau v. Allianz Underwriters Insurance Co., No. 1:10-01297 (D. D.C.).
In a March 4 motion filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Allianz asserts that Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 11 sanctions are warranted because Wausau's claims are "objectively frivolous and beyond the bounds of zealous advocacy."
