Lloyd's Seeks to Bar Law Firm from Representing Liberty Mutual in Arbitration

BOSTON - Certain Underwriters of Lloyd's, London and Equitas Insurance Ltd. have asked a Massachusetts state judge to enjoin the law firm of Sidley Austin from representing Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in a reinsurance arbitration, asserting that such representation poses a conflict of interest. Certain Underwriters at Lloyd's, London, et al. v. Sidley Austin LLP, et al., No. 10-4663 (Mass. Super., Suffolk Cty.).
In a complaint filed in the Suffolk County Superior Court, plaintiffs contend that Sidley has a concurrent conflict in violation of Massachusetts law "for which no informed consent has been given by Underwriters or Equitas."
