NEW YORK - A New York federal judge has refused to enforce a default judgment issued in a reinsurance contract dispute against a Romanian bank, ruling that the bank is not an alter ego of the Romanian government. General Star National Insurance Co. v. Administratia Asigurarilor de Stat, No. 18 MS 302 (S.D. N.Y.).
On May 12, Chief Judge Loretta A. Preska of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled that Banca Comerciala Romana is a "distinct and separate entity" from the Romanian government.
