HOUSTON -- A federal court has denied a motion to compel responses to discovery requests, citing a procedural deficiency in the way the motion was asserted. Brown v. Shell Oil Co., et al., No. 08-00413 (S.D. Texas).

In a Nov. 6 one-page order, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas denied the motion to compel without prejudice, noting that that a previous case management order "requires parties to receive approval prior to filing written discovery motions."
