EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- A benzene plaintiff in Illinois is seeking to hold a premises defendant liable for her injuries, claiming the party "had a duty to maintain its premises in a safe manner and not allow injuries to persons lawfully upon [the] premises," according to a recently filed complaint. Dangerfield v. BP Corp. North America, et al., No. 08-1032 (Ill. 3rd Jud. Cir. Ct., Madison Cty.).
The lawsuit, filed Oct. 31 in the Illinois Third Judicial Circuit Court for Madison County, alleges that exposure to benzene-containing products on the defendant's grounds led to the plaintiff's development of acute myelogenous leukemia. …
