New Benzene Complaint Says Exposure Caused Lou Gehrig's Disease

LOS ANGELES -- A California couple has filed a benzene action in state court, contending that exposure to a variety of "toxic and neurodegenerative chemicals," including benzene, caused one of the plaintiffs to develop Lou Gehrig's Disease. Castellanos, et al. v. Allegheny Ludlum Corp., et al., No. BC396402 (Calif. Super. Ct., Los Angeles Cty.).

In the Aug. 15 complaint filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, plaintiffs Federico and Erica Castellanos contend that Federico's work as a laborer exposed him to a variety of chemicals as well as benzene-containing products.
