Memphis Refinery Fined $2.2 Million for Violation of Clean Air Act




WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Williams Refinery in Memphis, Tenn. has been fined, and agreed to pay, $2.2 million for failure to limit benzene emissions, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA said in a March 14 press release that the refinery had agreed to pay the amount to resolve allegations that it violated the Clean Air Act.

The allegations also included a failure to follow national standards regarding leak detection and repair regulations.
