LOS ANGELES -- A California judge has denied plaintiff attempts to receive a preferential trial setting. Loyola, et al. v. Union Oil Co., et al., No. BC280498 (Calif. Super. Ct., Los Angeles Cty.).

Judge Mary Thornton House of the Los Angeles Superior Court denied the motion in a Sept. 20 order. Plaintiffs Xavier and Cordelia Loyola filed a notice of the ruling on Sept. 21.

On Sept. 14, defendant Chemcentroal opposed the plaintiffs' attempts to receive the preferential trial setting, arguing that the Loyolas have not sufficiently proved that one of the plaintiffs has a substantial interest in the case.
