South Carolina Federal Court Approves $695,000 Settlement in Benzene Case

CHARLESTON, S.C. –– A South Carolina federal judge has signed off on a settlement agreement between the parties remaining in a benzene exposure lawsuit totaling $695,000, according to a recent order.

In an Oct. 23 order, the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina noted that the settlement is between plaintiffs and Sunoco Inc., 3M Co., Radiator Specialty Co., U.S. Steel Corp., CRC Industries Inc., and Safety-Kleen.

The plaintiffs asserted the claims on behalf of Walter C. Deaton, contending that he was exposed to benzene-containing Varsol fluids and mineral spirits while working for Duke Energy Corp., and Daniels …
