SAN FRANCISCO –– Monsanto Co. has filed a notice of appeal contesting the Roundup MDL court’s order upholding a multi-million verdict in what was the first personal injury case to proceed to trial in the coordinated docket.

In the Aug. 15 notice filed with the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, the defendant also contested pretrial orders, including ones relating to summary judgment and Daubert admissibility.

In July, the MDL Court reduced the $75 million punitive damage verdict after finding it was constitutionally impermissible; the court instead reduced the damages to $20 million, concluding that “Monsanto deserves to be punished.”
