Mass. Town Files PFOA Lawsuit, Says Foam Used in Fire Drills Contaminated Drinking Water

BOSTON – A town in Massachusetts has filed a lawsuit against a number of defendants, saying that its drinking water has been contaminated with PFOAs, a known animal and human carcinogen, used during fire training activities.

In the Nov. 21 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the plaintiff asked to recover the costs of restoring its contaminated drinking water systems and supply wells.

Named as defendants in the case are manufacturers of aqueous film-forming foam used to control and extinguish fires, including National Foam Inc., 3M Co., and Chemguard.
