Calif. Jury Reaches Defense Verdict for Monsanto at Conclusion of PCBs Exposure Trial

LOS ANGELES –– A California jury has reached a defense verdict in favor of Monsanto Co. at the conclusion of a PCBs exposure trial, rejecting the plaintiffs’ claims that they developed cancer as a result of exposure to the chlorinated organic compounds.

The California Superior Court for Los Angeles County reached the verdict on May 6 after two weeks of trial.

In their original complaint, filed in Dec. 2012, plaintiffs Paul Brownlee, Fred Steele, and Arutyun Karabadzhakyan contended that they were injured by exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The jury heard the claims of Steele and Karabadzhakyan only, according to …
