Lubricant Defendants Reach Settlement Agreement in South Carolina Benzene Case

COLUMBIA, S.C. –– Two defendants named in a South Carolina benzene case for their role in manufacturing lubricant products have reached settlement agreements, according to recent orders.
In separate March 26 orders, the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina noted that it had been advised of settlement agreements between the plaintiffs and Idemitsu Lubricants American Corp. and Spectrum Lubricants Corp.
The underlying claims were brought on behalf of Philip Boykin, who worked as a motorcycle mechanic and technician for nearly 30 years. During this time, Boykin worked with petroleum-based products that contained benzene and other polycyclic aromatic …
