Safety-Kleen Urges Court to Stick By Decision Striking Documents that Revealed Settlement Discussion Information

PITTSBURGH –– Safety-Kleen Systems Inc. has backed a Pennsylvania federal court’s decision to strike a motion for sanctions from the public record, saying that the benzene plaintiffs’ motion and accompanying memorandum contain confidential settlement discussion details from a recent mediation session.

In its March 17 response, the benzene defendant further said that even if the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania allows the documents to become public, the underlying motion accusing Safety-Kleen of failing to attend the mediation session with a good faith interest in reaching a resolution is meritless.
