Study Connects Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Increase in Those Living Close to Benzene Release Sites




MALDEN, Mass. –– An increase of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cases was observed among those living in close proximity to benzene release sites, according to a recent study.

In the study “Residence Proximity to Benzene Release Sites is Associated with Increased Incidence of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma,” published online July 29 in the medical journal Cancer, the authors note that “NHL incidence was significantly higher in census tracts that were closer, on average to benzene release sites.”

“Additional studies are needed to examine spatial patterns of NHL incidence in other geographic regions and interactions between benzene and other exposures,” the abstract for the study …
