ATSDR Releases Findings from Camp Lejeune Study; Says Benzene Contamination May Have Started in 1948

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry has released a report that details its findings of an epidemiological study it conducted into the presence of benzene in drinking water at the Camp Lejeune marine base in North Carolina.

According to the report, the agency is using water-modeling techniques “and the process of historical reconstruction to quantify concentrations of particular contaminants in finished water and to compute the level and duration of human exposure to contaminated drinking water.”
