YANCEYVILLE, N.C. -- A North Carolina state court has awarded plaintiffs nearly $3.7 million at the conclusion of a bench trial in a case linking the development of acute myelogenous leukemia case to benzene exposure. Scearce, et al. v. Caswell Auto Parts LLC, et al., No. 08-CVS420 (N.C. Super. Ct., Caswell Cty.).
In an April 26 order, Judge John O. Craig II of the North Carolina Superior Court for Caswell County awarded $3,682,440 in damages, finding that the plaintiffs were entitled to recover costs associated with past medical expenses and pain and suffering.
