Jury Reaches Defense Verdict for Shell in Arizona Gasoline Case

PHOENIX -- An Arizona jury has reached a defense verdict in favor of Shell in a case asserted by a 32-year-old former fuel truck driver who claimed that his work in the vicinity of benzene-containing gasoline caused him to develop two different types of leukemia. Zendejas, et al. v. Shell Oil Co., et al., No. CV 2007-005399 (Ariz. Super. Ct., Maricopa Cty.).
On November 19, the Arizona Superior Court for Maricopa County jury determined by a 9-1 vote that the remaining defendants were not liable for Zendejas' atypical chronic myeloid leukemia and, then, acute myelogenous leukemia.
