Va. Jurors Reach Defense Verdict in Case Against Exxon

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- A Virginia jury has reached a defense verdict in a shipyard exposure case that targeted ExxonMobil for its role as the owner of the vessel. Morton, et al. v. ExxonMobil, et al., No. CL 0601180V-04 (Va. 7th Jud. Cir. Ct., Newport News).
The Newport News County Circuit Court jury reached the verdict on Nov. 25 after a two-week trial, according to published reports.
The claims were asserted by Nancy Morton on behalf of Stanley Morton, a former electrician who claimed that his exposure to asbestos while working at a Newport News shipyard for 33 years. …
