Texas Jury Finds for Lorillard, Rejects Cigarette Filter Claims




SAN ANTONIO -- A Texas jury has rejected a lawsuit that claimed asbestos-containing cigarette filters caused the plaintiff to develop mesothelioma, reaching a defense verdict in favor of defendant Lorillard Tobacco Co., sources told HarrisMartin. Young, et al. v. Lorillard Tobacco Co., No. 2007CI15853 (Texas 131st Jud. Dist. Ct., Bexar Cty.).

The 131st Judicial District Court for Bexar County reached the verdict on Sept. 23, sources said.

Donald Young, along with his wife, Wanda, asserted the claims, contending that his mesothelioma was caused by exposure to asbestos in Kent cigarette filters.
