Jury Awards $9.25 Million in Chrysotile Asbestos Exposure Case

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- A Virginia jury has rejected lone defendant John Crane's contention that chrysotile asbestos does not cause mesothelioma, awarding $9.25 million total and apportioning 60 percent, or $5.5 million, of that verdict to the defendant. Oney, et al. v. John Crane Inc., No. 00301TF (Va. Cir. Ct., Newport News).
The Newport News Circuit Court jury reached the verdict on April 11 after two days of deliberations and a two-week trial. Judge Timothy S. Fisher oversaw the trial.
