Ill. Jury Awards $5.5 Million in Lung Cancer Asbestos Case

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois jurors have awarded $5.5 million to the widow of a former insulation worker who allegedly developed lung cancer as a result of exposure to asbestos-containing insulation and pipe covering products. Hoogerwerf v. Honeywell International, No. 04-L-92 (Ill. Cir. Ct., McLean Cty).
Honeywell International was the lone remaining defendant during the three-week trial in the Illinois Circuit Court for McLean County. The verdict was reached Nov. 3.
Plaintiff Vickie Hoogerwerf asserted the claims on behalf of her husband, John, who she claims died at the age of 53 from asbestos-related lung cancer.
