Jurors Award $5 Million in Trial Involving Juror Dispute

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A Louisiana jury has awarded a mesothelioma plaintiff $5 million at the conclusion of a trial that was interrupted mid-trial over a dispute as to whether a trial can continue with only 11 jurors. Terrance, et al. v. ExxonMobil Corp., et al., No. 504016 (La. 19th Jud. Dist. Ct.).
The 19th Judicial District Court jury reached the 11-0 decision June 24 after four hours of deliberation and despite lacking one juror who was dismissed for health reasons midway through the trial.
