BALTIMORE - In an attempt to untangle a web caused by numerous procedural errors in what began as a "run-of-the-mill" asbestos case, the U.S. District Court in Maryland has granted and denied in part each of three motions for summary judgment brought by an insurer and two law firms, all of whom were looking to one another to take responsibility for a $1.6 million settlement in a lawsuit that was allegedly barred by the statute of limitations, res judicata, and a general release executed by the plaintiff in a prior lawsuit.
