Sen. Specter Confirms Feb. 6 as Beginning of Asbestos Bill Debate

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) confirmed on Jan. 24 that debates on the Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act (S. 852) will begin on Feb. 6.

Last week, the Stanford Washington Research Group reported that Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), the Senate Majority Leader, said that he had enough votes to bring the proposed asbestos legislation to the Senate floor.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted the Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act (S. 852) out of committee in May 2005 with a 13-5 vote.
