Asbestos Defendant Pays $35,000 in Sanctions for Baseless Removal

SAN FRANCISCO -- An asbestos defendant has paid more than $35,000 in sanctions as a result of what a federal court determined was a baseless removal, sources told HarrisMartin. Galassi, et al. v. A.W. Chesterton Co., et al., No. 05-02017 (N.D. Calif.).

An order remanding the claims of plaintiff Peter Galassi was entered earlier this year by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Galassi alleged that he was exposed to asbestos while working at U.S. Naval shipyards, which he claims caused his mesothelioma.
