N.Y. Firm Proposes Trial Structure Calling for Trials Every 30 Days

NEW YORK -- A New York law firm with nearly 9,000 asbestos-related claims pending has asked the judge overseeing the claims to adopt an aggressive trial structure that would begin trials every 30 days.
In a Feb. 12 letter to Judge Helen Freedman of the First Judicial District of the New York Supreme Court, Robert J. Gordon of Weitz & Luxenberg in New York proposed a new trial structure with aims of resolving "significantly more FIFO cases."
Sources said the plan is expected to be discussed at an April 17 conference with Judge Freedman.
