Jury Finds for Plaintiff in Mesothelioma Trial, Awards $3 Million

DALLAS -- Jurors have awarded $3 million to the surviving family members of a man who died at the age of 66 from mesothelioma. Juana D. Newman, et al. v. Aqua-Chem, Inc., et al., No. n/a (Texas Cty. Ct. at Law No. 5, Dallas).
The Aug. 29 verdict in the Texas County Court at Law No. 5 included $2 million in compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages. Sources said defendants Georgia Pacific and Kelly-Moore were each assigned 50 percent of the punitive award.
