$1.9 Million Awarded to Ex-Smoker Exposed to Asbestos

PHILADELPHIA - A jury in Philadelphia has awarded nearly $2 million to a man who claimed he developed lung cancer after being exposed to asbestos. Gillespie v. A.P. Green Industries, Inc., No. 99-303033 (Pa. Comm. Pls., Philadelphia Cty.).
Sources told HarrisMartin Publishing that the jury awarded $1.5 million in compensatory damages to Gillespie and $400,000 to his wife for loss of consortium in the first phase of the bifurcated trial. The outcome of the second phase, the liability phase, was pending.
