Jury Returns $3.6 Million Verdict Against Plaintiff's Former Employer

PLAQUEMINE, La. -- After one hour of deliberation, a Louisiana jury awarded $3.625 million to the family of a former laborer, who died of alleged asbestos-related cancer. Watts v. Hebert Brothers, et al., No. 55941 (La. 18th Jud. Dist. Ct., Iberville Parish).
On April 28, the Louisiana 18th Judicial District Court for the Parish of Iberville found that plaintiff Alfred Watts' former employer, Hebert Brothers Engineers Inc., was liable for Watts' development of laryngeal and lung cancer.
Hebert Brothers was the lone defendant in the two-week trial which was presided over by Judge James Best.
