Jury Enters $850,000 Verdict Against Kaiser Gypsum

DALLAS -- A Texas jury has awarded $850,000 to plaintiffs alleging first-hand and take-home exposure to asbestos-containing joint compounds. Geneva Hornsby, et al. v. Bondex International, Inc., et al., No. 01-4673-A (Texas 68th Jud. Dist. Ct., Dallas Cty.).
The April 20 verdict in the 68th Judicial District Court for Dallas County is believed to be the first asbestos verdict entered against Kaiser Gypsum in Texas, sources said.
Sources said that plaintiffs Bill and Geneva Hornsby alleged that Kaiser Gypsum, the lone defendant left in the case, was liable for allowing Bill Hornsby to work with asbestos-containing joint compounds.
