SV40 Litigation Update

icTendicwo SV40 products liability cases have been filed in the United States against makers of the polio vaccine: one a mesothelioma case in Middlesex County, N.J., and the other a brain cancer wrongful death suit filed in federal court in California.

In a complaint filed in New Jersey Superior Court, Alice Brofsky and her husband, Lawrence, allege that Alice contracted mesothelioma as a result of her exposure to SV40-contaminated polio vaccine.

The Brofskys claim that several pharmaceutical giants, including Merck & Co., Pfizer, Inc., Eli Lilly and Bayer Corp., withheld information about the vaccine's allegedly carcinogenic effects.
