$10 Million Complaint Filed Against Asbestos Defendant for Unpaid Benefits

CLEVELAND, Ohio - An Ohio woman is seeking damages of more than $10 million from asbestos defendant U.S. Steel for its alleged refusal to pay workers' compensation benefits awarded to her by a Mahoning County jury. Kerchofer v. USX Corp., No. 01cv2490 (Ohio Comm. Pls., Mahoning Cty.).

The complaint was filed in Mahoning County on Sept. 20 by Mary E. Kerchofer, whose husband died of asbestos-related lung cancer in 1997 after working at U.S. Steel, formerly USX Corp., for 40 years.

As a result of her husband's death, Kerchofer was awarded benefits in July 2001.
