Jury Awards $3 Million to Plumber with Mesothelioma

SAN FRANCISCO - A San Francisco jury has awarded over $3 million to a retired plumber who contracted mesothelioma as a result of 35 years of on-the-job asbestos exposure. Schingle v. A.P. Green Industries, Inc., et al., No. 318455 (Calif. Super. Ct., San Francisco Cty.).
On Sept. 26, the jury found defendants California Portland Cement Co. and Amcord, Inc., formerly Riverside Cement Co. each one percent at fault for the plaintiff's injury.
Plaintiff Walter Schingle, a 67-year-old retired plumber and widowed father of five, worked around asbestos building materials from 1960-1995. He was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma in November 2000 …
