PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Now-bankrupt asbestos defendant GAF has been ordered by a Rhode Island court to pay the outstanding portion of a settlement negotiated on the company's behalf by the Center for Claims Resolution. Rossi, et al. v. AC&S, Inc., et al., No. 96-1295, 96-1103 (R.I. Super. Ct., Providence).
In an opinion filed Sept. 12, the Superior Court of Rhode Island in Providence said that because of the nature of a producer agreement that gave the CCR expressed authority to negotiate settlements on GAF's behalf, the company must settle up the unpaid portion. GAF has also been ordered to pay …
