Pennsylvania Court Recommends Affirmation of $115,000 Asbestos Verdict

PHILADELPHIA - A Pennsylvania Common Pleas Court judge has recommended the dismissal of a motion to expunge a $115,000 verdict awarded to a former city worker who claimed he was exposed to asbestos while working around wire in Philadelphia's subway tunnels. Williams v. The Okonite Co., et al., No. 0660 (Pa. Comm. Pls., Philadelphia Cty.).

The judge said in a July 2 opinion that the jury award and the court's subsequent denial of motions for new trial and for judgement notwithstanding the verdict were proper in light of the evidence James Williams and his wife, Sally, presented during trial.
