State to Receive Over $63 Million in Settlement with Five Manufacturers

HONOLULU - The state of Hawaii has settled with five asbestos companies for more than $63.3 million after an eight-year battle that stemmed from asbestos contamination in more than 300 of the state's buildings.
The final settlement was announced by the state attorney general's office on Aug. 13. According to the attorney general, the state's recovery will exceed $33.1 million after legal fees and other costs are paid.
