Verdict for U.S. Steel in Consolidated Asbestos Case

PITTSBURGH - A Pennsylvania jury has found for defendant U.S. Steel in a consolidated case that included 24 plaintiffs, many who were contractor employees claiming the company negligently exposed them to asbestos while they worked at several Steel facilities in Western Pennsylvania. Beggan, et al. v. USX Corp., No. GD 97-20781 (Pa. Comm. Pls., Allegheny Cty.).
The Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas jury issued its verdict for the defense July 6 after three days of deliberation.
Of the 24 plaintiffs, 19 were contractor employees -asbestos workers, steamfitters, sprinklerfitters, electricians and ironworkers - and five were electricians who claimed that …
