HARTFORD, Conn. - A Connecticut appeals court has upheld an arbitration award that resulted from a dispute over fees that were never paid to an attorney hired to handle one firm's regional asbestos claims. Cheverie v. Ashcraft & Gerel, No. AC 20858 (Conn. Ct. App.).

The state appellate court upheld the award Sept. 4, finding that Washington, D.C.-based asbestos firm Ashcraft & Gerel was unable to show that the arbitrator violated public policy when he ruled that a former employee was entitled to compensation for asbestos cases that originated from a Connecticut office the employee had managed for several years. …
