Asbestos Dangers Surface in Wake of World Trade Center Attacks




NEW YORK - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has detected asbestos fibers in what remains of the avalanche of dust and debris that descended upon lower Manhattan and surrounding neighborhoods last month after two planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, later causing those towers to crumble.

Nearly a week after the disaster, the EPA announced that the majority of air samples in lower Manhattan met Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) ambient air quality standards and were not a cause for public concern.
