PHILDELPHIA -- A Pennsylvania jury awarded $500,000 to a welder claiming he developed lung cancer as a result of exposure to asbestos in welding rods, in what sources say is the first time welding rod defendants have been found solely liable for an asbestos-related injury. Yencho v. Airco, et al., No. n/a (Pa. Comm. Pls., Philadelphia Cty.).
The jury reached its decision on liability on May 12 after three hours of deliberation, finding the welding rod defendants Airco/BOC Group and Lincoln Electric were liable on all questions. The jury, however, refrained from apportioning percentages of liability. According to sources, the …
