$1 Million Awarded to Wisconsin Workers with Mild Asbestosis

MILWAUKEE - Three Wisconsin workers who developed asbestosis, allegedly after being exposed to asbestos while working at a Wisconsin utility, have been awarded more than $1 million. Boede, et al. v. Wisconsin Electric Power Co., et al., No. 98-CV-6561 (Wis. Cir. Ct., Milwaukee Cty.).
A Milwaukee County jury reached the verdict July 20, finding defendants Wisconsin Electric Power Co. and Sprinkmann Sons Corp. negligent for exposing the workers to asbestos while the utility constructed its Oak Creek Power Plant.
The jury found that both companies had violated Wisconsin's Safe Place Act with regard to two of the plaintiffs.
